STUDIO RDN-X — MASTERPLANNING

Masterplanning & Urban Strategy.

Studio RDN-X develops masterplans and urban strategies that begin with the question no one has yet answered: what should this place actually become? Site strategy, regeneration frameworks, campus planning and spatial development narratives — grounded in spatial intelligence, not optimism.

Place as Proposition

Most masterplanning processes begin with constraints — site boundaries, planning policy, development quantum, viability thresholds. These are necessary, but they are not a starting point for good placemaking. Studio RDN-X begins with a proposition: a clear argument about what a place could be, grounded in its context, its community, its cultural geography and its spatial potential. From this proposition, the masterplan develops outward — generating a spatial framework that can accommodate growth and change while remaining coherent in its underlying logic. The result is a masterplan that can be explained, argued for and built from. Not a drawing of a finished place, but a framework for becoming one.

What We Deliver

Our masterplanning and urban strategy work spans the full range of strategic spatial scales: Site Strategy — early-stage spatial analysis, development potential assessments and option studies. We help clients understand what a site can do before commissioning a masterplan. Regeneration Frameworks — comprehensive spatial strategies for urban regeneration, estate renewal, town centre transformation and brownfield development. We develop narratives that support planning, funding and community engagement. Campus Planning — spatial development frameworks for universities, schools, hospitals, cultural institutions and corporate campuses. Long-term planning for complex, multi-stakeholder environments that must serve multiple uses simultaneously. Mixed-Use Masterplanning — spatial frameworks for residential-led, mixed-use and urban quarter developments. Housing mix, land use distribution, public realm design and phasing strategies. Spatial Development Narratives — the written and visual documents that translate a masterplan into a compelling case for investment, planning approval and community support. Africa & International Projects — through Design Associates Africa, we develop masterplans and settlement frameworks for sites across Nigeria, Ghana and the wider Sub-Saharan region — bringing both international standards and grounded contextual knowledge.

Who We Work With

Our masterplanning clients include organisations with significant spatial ambitions: Local authorities and regeneration agencies developing transformation strategies for town centres, housing estates and industrial land. Private developers working on larger residential or mixed-use sites that require a coherent spatial framework before planning. Educational institutions, healthcare trusts and cultural organisations planning major capital development programmes. International development organisations commissioning settlement strategies and spatial frameworks in rapidly growing cities. Landowners and investors evaluating the long-term development potential of strategic sites. We are not a masterplanning factory. We take on a small number of strategic projects each year and invest the thinking they deserve.
